A devastating collision just north of Prescott has left one woman dead and her husband critically injured. On June 5th, near Williamson Valley Road and Pioneer Parkway, what began as an attempted vehicle pass at a traffic light spiraled into a tragic incident.

Reports from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, as detailed by FOX 10 Phoenix, indicate that the initial collision occurred when one car trying to pass another at a light struck the vehicle. The impact sent the passing car directly into the path of an oncoming cement mixer.

In a subsequent report by 12 News, the Sheriff's Office explained, "A passenger car was stopped northbound at the light at Pioneer Parkway when another passenger vehicle attempted to pass it by using the lane-ending right lane. The two cars ended up colliding after the driver was forced to merge into the left lane."

After being propelled into the southbound lane, the car obstructed the cement mixer's path. "The driver of the cement mixer attempted to avoid the vehicle but could not, which caused the now severely damaged car to careen into a dirt shoulder, and the cement mixer to impact a guard rail," the Sheriff's Office stated to FOX 10 Phoenix.

The driver of the car involved in the initial pass was airlifted to Deer Valley Hospital in critical condition. Tragically, his wife, who was in the passenger seat, succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital. As per assessments by law enforcement officials, it appears the driver of the cement mixer had no opportunity to avoid the fatal crash.
