A tragedy has struck the northwest Harris County community as a 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with the murder of 62-year-old Dana Magnuson. On the evening of July 20, deputies were called to Sunshine Meadow Drive in the Hockley area, where they discovered Magnuson had been stabbed to death in the backyard of her home. The grim find was confirmed after Magnuson's son reported to the authorities that his mother was found lifeless in the backyard, as detailed by KHOU.
More than a week after the incident, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced the arrest of the teenager, revealing that he has been placed in custody at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center. The teen's identity has not been disclosed due to his minor status, although he now faces serious charges, in connection with the homicide. According to a statement obtained by the Houston Chronicle, the decision as to whether the youth will be tried as an adult hinges on a certification process by the district attorney's office – a judicial consideration that was still pending as of Monday evening.
Dana Magnuson seemed devoted to public service. Described by Sheriff Gonzalez as "an active community member and beloved by everyone who knew her," Magnuson worked as a bus dispatcher for Katy ISD. This sentiment echoes in the bereavement expressed by those who cherished her presence and contributions to the neighborhood.
"The teenager was arrested more than a week after Dana Magnuson was found stabbed multiple times in a shed behind her home in Hockley, a small unincorporated community on U.S. 290," said Sheriff Gonzalez, according to Houston Chronicle.
