In a recent announcement, Anne Arundel County has stated that all county government buildings will be taking a two-day break in honor of Independence Day, staying closed on Thursday and Friday. This pause in services affects a wide array of county offices, from recreational centers and the Arundel Center to the Permitting Center. Emergency and essential personnel, however, are still required to show up for work, keeping the essential gears of the county turning, according to Anne Arundel County.

Adjusting their schedules for the Federal holiday, senior activity centers across the county will be closing their doors as well, standing still on Thursday and Friday. This shutdown will suspend lunch services at these centers, and those who usually enjoy the congregate meals will have to wait until Friday to receive their lunch. With transportation services grounded to a halt, seniors reliant on county-facilitated rides will have to find alternate means for these two days. In addition, all virtual classes and Senior Center Plus programs have been removed from the calendar.

Meanwhile, the Department of Recreation and Parks is offering a mixed bag. While the county's regional and community parks will continue to remain open for normal operations during both days of observance, aquatic centers will only be observing the holiday on July 4, after which they dive back into usual business hours the following day. This maintains a sliver of recreational opportunity for residents looking to celebrate outdoors.

When it comes to dealing with your trash, the county is putting a lid on waste management facilities on Thursday. Curbside collection services will also be parked that day, leaving Thursday's refuse to be picked up on the following Friday. The county plans to resume normal operations promptly on Friday and has already arranged a make-up day for curbside collection for those who usually set their waste out on Friday, scheduling it for Saturday instead.
