Community members in Argyle are being targeted by a new scam involving fraudulent fundraising for the local police department. The Town of Argyle has issued a warning after several reports of residents getting phone calls from individuals falsely claiming to represent the Argyle Police Department and asking for donations.
The police department has made it clear that they do not solicit donations over the phone. "Be aware that our department will NOT contact you by phone to request funds or donations, nor will we enlist the help of others to do so on our behalf," the Argyle Police Department stated on their official Facebook page. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any such calls to the authorities.
Scammers typically employ a variety of tactics to prey on unsuspecting individuals, often posing as reputable organizations or authorities to obtain money or confidential information. These deceptive calls may seem convincing, but officials remind the public that legitimate agencies do not conduct fundraising in this manner.
Anyone who receives such a call should not provide personal information, or financial details and is encouraged to hang up immediately. They should then report the incident to the Argyle Police Department. The department is actively working to investigate these fraudulent calls and prevent future occurrences.
