In a move aimed at reversing the tide of inaccessibility in the real estate market, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has announced a major milestone for the Arizona Is Home program. As reported by the Office of the Arizona Governor, the initiative has now aided 100 middle-class families in becoming homeowners through assistance such as down payment aid and interest rate cuts.
"I was born and raised in an Arizona where a middle-class family could buy their own home. That should be the reality for the next generation, too," Governor Hobbs said, emphasizing her commitment to making the dream of homeownership viable for more Arizonans. The Governor's proclamation resonates with the sentiments of countless families who have been edged out of the property market due to skyrocketing prices.
Funded through the Housing Trust Fund and ARPA, the Arizona Is Home mortgage assistance program collaborates with organizations like Chicanos Por La Causa, Trellis, and the Arizona Industrial Development Authority. Joan Serviss, CEO of the Arizona Department of Housing, expressed her pleasure in channeling funds to support first-time homebuyers by stating, "Last year's historic investment in housing has had an impact across the full housing continuum, from preventing homelessness to building more affordable housing."
Representatives from the involved organizations have also shared their upbeat outlook on the program's success. "The Arizona is Home Program has played a crucial role in bridging the affordability gap for hardworking individuals striving to become homeowners," Brenda Lopez of Trellis told the Office of the Arizona Governor. Trellis and other organizations are providing vital resources including counseling to prop up potential buyers in a challenging market.
The program particularly benefits those in rural areas where the homeownership trials are often magnified. Dirk Swift from the Arizona Industrial Development Authority remarked on the program's focus on these communities, stating, "The Arizona Is Home program targets these rural homebuyers, providing assistance and creating a pathway to homeownership." This pathway is increasingly important as more families find themselves priced out of urban housing markets.
For Arizonans who may be interested in such assistance, eligibility details and application information for the Arizona Is Home program can be found through the Office of the Arizona Governor.
