A Baltimore City school teacher faces serious charges in connection to a 12-year-old girl from Baltimore County who had been reported missing. Lewis Laury, 24, has been taken into custody on grounds of second-degree rape and sexual offense in the third degree, according to police. The teacher was arrested yesterday, and is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center, as reported by FOX Baltimore.
Police revealed that the girl was reported missing on June 21 and was found a week later at Laury's residence. Detectives reportedly received information about an inappropriate relationship between Laury and the minor. In what appears to have been a coordinated attempt to hinder the detection of their communication, the missing girl is said to have used a friend's phone to contact Laury. WBAL-TV disclosed these details, noting that the girl and Laury lived in the same apartment complex. The case took a turn when U.S. Marshals found the girl at Laury's address, however, Laury was not present at that time.
This narrative has gripped the Baltimore area as authorities are piecing together the events leading up to the girl’s disappearance and the subsequent arrest of Laury. Further fuelling the investigation, court records illuminate that the missing girl made use of a friend's phone to reach a number registered to the accused.
