A 56-year-old man was shot Friday morning in Northwest Baltimore, the latest gunfire to hit a stretch of Reisterstown Road that has seen repeated violence this year. Officers responding to the 2700 block found the man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, and he was taken to a hospital where his condition is now listed as stable.
Police were called to investigate the shooting on Friday, according to WBFF. Detectives have not publicly identified a suspect or a motive, and the outlet's report does not specify what business or location on the block may have been involved. A Corridor With a History of Gunfire
The 2700 block sits in the Mondawmin area near Druid Park Drive. It is not the first time this year that Reisterstown Road has made headlines for violence. In February, gunfire was reported in the 4900 block of the same road in the Langston Hughes neighborhood, as reported by WEAA, a case Hoodline covered in its story on gunfire turning the corridor deadly.
Earlier this year, in January, a 46-year-old man was hospitalized in stable condition after being shot multiple times during an altercation in the 6600 block of Reisterstown Road, per Baltimore Witness. And in April, a 17-year-old was shot on the same corridor, a case Hoodline reported at the time in its coverage of a teen shot in broad daylight. Whether Friday's shooting is connected to any of those earlier incidents remains an open question, and police have not indicated a link.
Citywide Violence Is Down, But Corridors Like This Persist
The shooting comes even as Baltimore continues a historic decline in gun violence. As of September 1, the city had recorded 201 non-fatal shootings and 72 homicides in 2026, a 5.6% decrease in non-fatal shootings and an 18.2% drop in homicides compared to the same point last year, according to the Baltimore City Mayor's Office. That follows 2025, when the city logged 133 homicides — its lowest annual total in nearly 50 years and a 60% reduction since 2021, the mayor's office has said.
Police have also reported gains in solving these cases. The Baltimore Police Department's clearance rate for non-fatal shootings reached 54% in the first half of 2026, a 12 percentage point jump over the same period a year earlier, the department said. Officers have recovered more than 1,367 firearms so far this year, including 138 untraceable ghost guns, and made 826 gun arrests through late August, per the mayor's office.
Baltimore has also targeted specific neighborhoods with intervention programs. The city's Group Violence Reduction Strategy was relaunched in 2024, according to Conduit Street. It remains unclear whether Friday's shooting is connected to the kind of group-based violence that strategy is designed to address.
