Baltimore County is set to engage a new strategy for promoting road safety within its school zones. Starting July 11, the county will activate five new speed cameras near various educational institutions. These cameras will be located close to Cromwell Valley Elementary School, Lyons Mill Elementary School, Franklin High School, Pretty Boy Elementary School, and Redeemer Classical Christian School, as reported by FOX Baltimore.
Motorists should take note, that for the initial 30 days following activation, those exceeding the speed limit by more than 12 mph will not receive a fine, but a warning, as detailed by WBALTV. This grace period is likely designed to ease drivers into the transition and raise awareness about the importance of adhering to posted speed restrictions, especially in areas populated by children. Uniform signage will indicate the presence of these speed camera zones, helping to alert and remind drivers to slow down.
The new cameras are part of a larger enforcement effort to ensure the safety of students traveling to and from school. Detailed information about these and other speed camera locations in Baltimore County can be found on the county's official website. These measures align with state laws that mandate that speed cameras operate from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. This schedule is upheld even during the summer and also on days when schools are not in session.
