An early morning blaze last Saturday ravaged a Bay City home, leaving a family without shelter. Firefighters were called to the 2300 block of Broadway Street around 3:30 AM and found the house fully engulfed in flames, the fire's ferocity was such that it also damaged a neighboring residence, as reported by ABC12.
The Bay City Department of Public Safety, bolstered by support from neighboring townships, contained and extinguished the conflagration, thankfully without incurring any civilian or firefighter injuries. The fire's origin is yet to be determined as investigations by the Fire Marshal’s office continue, this detail was shared by the Bay City Department of Public Safety.
Beyond the devastation of the family’s home, there was the loss of multiple pets in the fire. Adam Heaphy, a neighbor, revealed that at least nine pets perished, however, the family and two of their dogs survived, and they’re currently staying in a local hotel. Heaphy, moved by the family's plight, set up a GoFundMe page to aid them, as they had only recently moved from Indiana and were in the process of securing homeowners’ insurance, according to WNEM5.
"They moved in about three, four weeks ago and they didn’t have homeowners’ insurance, they were trying to get it, I guess," Heaphy said, as per WNEM5. In the interim, Heaphy stepped in with immediate assistance, driving the family to the shelter and providing them with food and clothing.
