
A tragic collision in Saginaw County over the weekend resulted in the death of a bicyclist after an encounter with a car. ABC12 reports that the incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, in Kochville Township's 6000 block of Bay Road. The Saginaw County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene just after 9:30 p.m. where a vehicle operated by a 79-year-old Freeland man struck and killed a 66-year-old Dearborn Heights man who was on his bike.
The area of Bay Road between Kochville and Pierce Road was closed to all traffic for a number of hours to allow law enforcement to thoroughly investigate the scene. Officers have been diligently working to fully uncover what transpired during the event that led to the bicyclist to tragically lose his life. As per a statement obtained by Mid Michigan Now, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the incident continues to be under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
Details about the events leading up to the crash remain sparse as the investigation is ongoing, though initial reports do not suggest at this time that any other parties were involved in the accident. According to WNEM, the collision happened as the car, driven north on Bay Road, collided with the bicyclist.
