A routine probation compliance check in Blythe took a turn toward the explosive on Monday when deputies discovered not one, but two explosive devices in a local residence. The find led to the evacuation of nearby homes in an abundance of caution, while the bomb squad was called in to disarm the potentially deadly items, as reported by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

According to information released by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the devices were found at a home on the 17000 block of Blythe Way. The operation, a collaborative effort between the Colorado River Sheriff’s Station and the Riverside County Probation Department, was otherwise business as usual until the explosives were uncovered. The devices were subsequently collected, and disposed of in line with the department's procedure.

Omar Perez, a 28-year-old local, has been identified as the individual in possession of the explosive devices. Following the investigation, Perez faces charges including possession of an explosive device, possession of narcotics, and violation of probation. He has been booked into the Blythe Jail as the case proceeds.

The Sheriff's Department has indicated that there's no further danger to the community. However, the investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are reaching out for support. In a statement obtained by Riverside County Sheriff's Department, they encouraged, "Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to call Deputy Ritchie or Deputy Moreno at Colorado River Station at (760) 921-7900." More details on the incident can be found on the Riverside County Sheriff's website.
