The Sonoma Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the body of Nasoni Tuitoga, a 28-year-old man from Santa Rosa who went missing while swimming in the Russian River near Villa Grande, was found deceased last Friday afternoon. The announcement came after an exhaustive multi-day search involving multiple agencies. According to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, their personnel, alongside the Sonoma County Fire District, the Marine Unit, the Volunteer Dive Team, and Monte Rio Fire, conducted the search, further supported by the Napa County Sheriff's Office.
The initial call that led to the search came in at 6:17 PM last Wednesday, upon which responders rushed to the scene but failed to locate Tuitoga before dark. The operation was halted and resumed at daylight each day, in keeping with safety protocols. The Napa County Sheriff's Office provided a remote-operated underwater vehicle, contributing to the efforts. However, the search ended each evening as darkness precluded safe operations.
In a statement obtained by Hoodline, the search was described as seeing a "rhythm of hope and halted breaths" as the community waited for updates. The involved agencies reportedly dispatched substantial resources for the operation, highlighting an intense commitment to resolving the case.
Amidst the sorrowful conclusion of this search, the Sonoma Sheriff's Office extended their "sincerest condolences to his family" and expressed gratitude towards the agencies and community members involved in the search efforts. The tragedy has drawn attention from citizens on social media, many of whom provided moral support during the extensive search.
