In an effort to address social needs within the community, the local library is teaming up with Hill Country Family Services (HCFS) to offer free counseling sessions every Wednesday for the month of July. Sessions are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon and are open to all community members seeking mental health support. This initiative involves HCFS Behavioral Health in collaboration with two practicum students from Texas A&M San Antonio, aiming to create an accessible space for those in need of someone to talk to without financial burden.
The relationship between the library and HCFS isn't new; it's been growing steadily over the years. Providing a staunch backbone of resources, the library has served as a venue for various community welfare activities led by HCFS. These include becoming a sanctuary as warming and cooling stations in times of emergency and tackling hunger with after-school snacks for the youth. In a display of thoughtfulness, free feminine products have also been made available by HCFS to the community through the library.
For those interested in participating in the free counseling sessions, HCFS can be reached at 830-249-8643 to register. There's also an option for individuals to sign up anonymously, ensuring privacy and encouraging those who might feel hesitant about seeking help. The sessions are part of a larger commitment from both entities to cater to the holistic well-being of their neighbors, acknowledging mental health support as a critical component of community service.
In a statement released yesterday, the library expressed deep appreciation for HCFS's ongoing efforts: "We are committed to working with HCFS for many years to come, because we are so grateful for all they do for the community."
