In the early hours of Monday, July 8, Seminole County officials issued a precautionary boil water advisory for residents of Colony Cove on W. Charing Cross Circle following an 8-inch water main break in the distribution system. Residents across 43 service connections are being instructed to boil their water as a safety measure. The advisory came into effect after a break was detected at approximately 12:30 am., affecting the Northeast Service Area-Country Club Water Treatment Plant, as reported by Seminole County.
The county's utilities department has begun repair work and will subsequently flush the system. Bacteriological samples will be taken post-repair to ensure the water's safety before lifting the advisory. Affected addresses span the 800 to 908 range on W. Charing Cross Circle, encompassing an entire stretch of a community that relies on this vital resource for their daily needs. Precautionary Boil Water Advisory notices have been physically placed on the residents' doors to both alert them and provide necessary contact information.
According to the notice, residents are advised to boil water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes. Bottled water is recommended as an alternative. The advisory is a standard procedure when there is a potential for drinking water to become contaminated, and it will remain in place until the water has been declared safe for consumption through satisfactory bacteriological testing.
The water main break is an interruption, but public health and safety remain paramount. Residents looking for more information or with pressing questions can reach out to the Seminole County Utilities Department at (407) 665-2110 during office hours. Customer service representatives are available from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, to guide and assist through this inconvenience until normalcy is restored.
