The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a hazardous weather outlook for northeast Georgia, the piedmont of North Carolina, western North Carolina, and upstate South Carolina due to the potential of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall over the next several days. Today's weather in Charlotte, as reported by NWS, is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 90, but thunderstorms are possible after 3 pm, bringing a chance of rapid rainfall accumulation in certain areas.
The NWS warns that isolated locations could experience flash flooding, especially in streams and urban areas. These conditions are accompanied by a heat index as high as 101, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses. Additionally, there are risks of cloud-to-ground lightning and, though less likely, gusty winds from potential storms. The precipitation chance for this evening stands at 50%, with possible new rainfall reaching up to a half-inch.
Looking ahead, conditions are expected to remain volatile, with a 70% chance of precipitation on Wednesday, climbing to an 80% chance from Wednesday night through Friday. Temperatures are slated to remain in the higher 80s to low 90s with similar heat index values, prompting concerns for continued storm activity and potential flooding in vulnerable regions of the forecast area.
Residents in these affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and prepared for sudden weather changes. The NWS advises the public to stay up to date with the latest forecasts, as excessive rain might lead to hazardous driving conditions and localized flooding.
