In a heartfelt tribute to their fallen K-9 Officer Brent Simpson, members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department dedicated their Fourth of July morning to a symbolic workout routine. As stated by QCNews, the physical remembrance took place at the Academy, marking the date of Officer Simpson's end of watch on July 1, 2024, and featured exercises echoing his service number.
Undertaking the rigorous regimen, officers were equipped with weighted vests, intended to parallel the load carried by Simpson during his service. The routine was meticulously crafted to reflect significant dates and figures: seven rounds symbolizing the month, a mile run for the date, and 24 push-ups to represent the year of passing, as per WCNC. To complete unabashedly ignore the physical strain was a tribute to Simpson's dedication to service.
This commemorative event also included a nod to Simpson's CMPD code number, 3776. Officers performed 37 sit-ups and 76 squats, incorporating the number into their workout as a physical manifestation of remembrance and honor for their colleague's service and sacrifice.
Such events serve to not just only remember the fallen, but to also reinforce the bonds among those within the department. The shared difficulty, the sweat, and the strain, all for the commemoration of one of their own, creates a living memorial that, in its own way, continues the legacy of Officer Brent Simpson and all that he stood for. It's these acts of remembrance and camaraderie that underscore the community within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
