To curb the menace of impaired driving, the Chula Vista Police Department took to the streets with a DUI checkpoint last Saturday evening, screening drivers for sobriety and valid licenses. The operation was situated in the 300 block of L Street, as reported by the Chula Vista Police Department. The DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint, occurring between 6 p.m. and 12 a.m., encountered 938 motorists, a fraction of whom, precisely 343, underwent a detailed screening.
In the span of the operation, field sobriety tests were administered to four drivers, leading to two arrests on suspicions of driving under the influence of alcohol, and in a related output of justice, six citations were handed out to individuals driving on suspended or without licenses, and more stirring was the sight as three vehicles were impounded, which speaks to a grim routine of hazardous roadway gambits. According to the official release, the selected location for this checkpoint stems from historical data pinpointing a higher rate of driving accidents connected to impaired operations in that area.
Funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the checkpoint is part of a larger, concerted strategy to ensure safer roads for all Californians.
