Cobb County just scored some major tech accolades, getting named as one of the top digitally connected counties in the United States. The latest results from the annual Digital Counties Survey have put Cobb squarely in the number five spot for its populous category. According to Cobb County's own news release, the survey handed out props for the county's work in leveraging tech to better reach its close to 800,000 locals.

“Cobb County is honored to be recognized in the 2024 Digital Counties Survey,” beamed Kimberly Lemley, the Chief Information Officer of Cobb, whose comments were shared in the county announcement. They've been busy over there, focusing on making government services more accessible, tightening cybersecurity, and making sure online services are both top-notch and equitable.

It all went down at the NACo Conference in sunny Tampa, Florida on July 12, where Lemley along with the Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Lisa Cupid snagged the award on behalf of Cobb County. This isn’t just for show—Cobb's efforts include pimping out their social media to boost engagement, overhauling their 911 recruiting site to pull in new recruits, and opening a fresh, more secure data center.

Residents in Cobb are now looking at a standard online payment process that smooths out transactions from water bill settlements to bus pass acquisitions. The program turning the county into some sort of crowd-sourced crime-fighting collective.

Matthew Chase, the NACo Executive Director, waxed positive about the initiatives, stating, "The Digital Counties Survey illustrates how counties are on the cutting-edge, pursuing innovative approaches to serve our residents,” as reported by the county.
