Dallas residents should keep umbrellas close and prepare for potential flooding this week as the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts thunderstorms. The latest weather update indicates a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today, with highs hovering around 88 degrees. Calm winds will gradually shift to the east throughout the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Though the likelihood of storms lessens slightly tonight, to a 20 percent chance, mostly cloudy skies and a low of around 73 degrees point to an unsettled atmosphere. The NWS has not activated spotters as of now, however, gusty winds and persistent lightning are expected to accompany the thunderstorms that do develop today. Moreover, heavy rainfall could cause quick accumulation on roadways, raising the risk of transit disruptions and swollen waterways.

The weather outlook doesn't improve much as the week presses on. The Hazardous Weather Outlook released by the National Weather Service tallies chances of thunderstorms each day through to Sunday. While Tuesday shows a reduced 30 percent chance, the potential for showers and thunderstorms mainly after 10 a.m. remains, with temperatures climbing near 90 degrees and calm winds taking an east-southeast turn in the afternoon.

The recurring rain could culminate in flooding issues, specifically across Central Texas. The NWS urges the public to be vigilant and aware that heavy rainfall will be the primary concern, the cumulative effect of which could be flooding issues, particularly across Central Texas. Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts and be prepared for changing weather conditions, as spotter activation is not anticipated at this time, although daily impacts from the storms could escalate.

As the weekend approaches, the forecast remains consistently peppered with storm chances, reaching up to a 30 percent probability. Highs are set to rise slightly, touching the low 90s while evenings will cool down to mid-70s. Friday and Saturday nights promise partly cloudy skies, hence providing some respite from the inclement weather. But daytime conditions will once again bring a mix of sun and the possibility of thunderstorms. Dallas citizens should stay informed and prepare for a week of sporadic showers, thunder, and potential flood hazards.
