Residents and small business owners in Anoka County, take note—no need to let old, sensitive documents stack up. The Coon Rapids Recycling Center is hosting a free paper shredding event to help you declutter those old tax returns, bank statements, and other confidential papers without a second thought about security. According to a recent announcement on the City of Coon Rapids website, the event is slated for Saturday, Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., or until the truck reaches its full capacity.
Residents can bring up to five boxes of documents to be shredded on-site, in a mobile truck equipped with a cross-cut shredder. This method guarantees that your documents will be reduced to confetti-sized pieces, addressing any potential privacy concerns. The City of Coon Rapids assures that "your documents will be loaded in a cart provided and then emptied into the shredding truck." Once you're through, the center also offers a spot to drop off those empty cardboard boxes.
For those wondering about preparation, the process is refreshingly simple. There's no need to remove paper clips, staples, or rubber bands; papers do not need to be separated from envelopes, nor is it necessary to remove windows from envelopes. Even books of checks can remain intact. "It is not necessary to remove paper clips, staples or rubber bands," the city's statement explains. However, participants should leave behind three-ring binders, credit cards, and CDs, as these items are not accepted for shredding.
