Motorists who typically traverse the intersections of Route 3049 (Cardiff Road) and Route 4003 (Bethel Road) with Route 422 in Blacklick Township are advised to prepare for detours starting July 22. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced an extensive road project slated to include the widening of lanes and traffic signal upgrades.
The construction work is set to encompass a widening project for Route 422, expanding the road near the intersections and installing left-turn lanes to lead more efficiently onto Cardiff and Bethel Roads. To ensure the work goes smoothly, PennDOT will set up detours expected to last about two weeks. The planned 10-mile detour for Cardiff Road is to temporarily redirect traffic from Route 422 to Route 271, funneling vehicles through Twin Rocks and Nanty Glo to Cardiff Road's juncture.
Concurrently, a shorter one-mile detour will reroute Bethel Road traffic onto Reed Hall Road, joining Route 4003. PennDOT has committed to keeping Route 422 accessible for westbound and eastbound traffic, mitigating extensive disruptions. The improvements also encompass flashing signal upgrades and various drainage augmentations, which are crucial for maintaining the roadway's safety and resilience.
While Route 422 remains open, PennDOT urges drivers to proceed with heightened alertness and caution—reminding to safely quickly drive through work zones. Visibility of flaggers and adherence to directions are paramount for safety and the protection of construction crews. For updates and potential changes in traffic patterns during this period, motorists are encouraged to regularly check PennDOT's website.
