A man from the Dominican Republic has been sentenced to four years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges of passport fraud and aggravated identity theft. Ivan Desiderio Peralta Rosario, 33, entered the guilty plea on March 20 and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Wendy W. Berger, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.
Previously deported after a conviction of unauthorized possession of an identification card and stolen property dealing, Peralta Rosario illegally reentered the U.S. and attempted to acquire a U.S. passport. His fraudulent application included a fake Florida Driver's License and birth certificate, under the identity of an individual with the initials L.J.M.M., whose personal details like date of birth and Social Security Number he used illegitimately.
The case unfolded as the result of a collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement- Enforcement and Removal Operations, the Diplomatic Security Service, and several state and local departments. The multi-agency investigation led to Peralta Rosario's arrest and subsequent conviction. Assistant United States Attorney Shannon Laurie was responsible for the prosecution.
