Residents of Apopka and surrounding areas can anticipate the sound of chainsaws and the sight of trimmed tree lines as Duke Energy gears up its vegetation management program. In a statement made public by the City of Apopka on July 10, Duke Energy outlined a forthcoming initiative within the city, aimed at pruning and possibly removing trees that pose a threat to the transmission infrastructure. This action, the company assures, is in the interest of maintaining safe and consistent electrical service

Crews will focus their efforts on the WP-2 69kV transmission power line corridor, an 8.22-mile stretch connecting the Apopka South Substation and the Woodsmere Substation. Landowners whose properties fall within the work zone are due to receive individual notifications as the project advances. In the event of power interruptions necessitated by this work, Duke Energy will give those affected advance notice – though at this time, it appears few interruptions, if any, are expected.

Duke Energy points out that trees are one of the main causes of power outages, particularly during storm season. By proactively managing vegetation, the utility company aims to minimize disruptions and speed up power restoration following adverse weather events.

Duke Energy has received recognition from The National Arbor Day Foundation for its tree care practices, earning the distinctive Tree Line USA designation. This background accolades, their herbicide application, and tree maintenance methods are underpinned by industry standards, and each contracted herbicide crew operates under the supervision of a licensed arborist. These efforts are part of larger investments in the transmission infrastructure, underscoring the company's pledge to provide excellent service and reliability.
