Lynn Reynolds, a 47-year-old Duquesne resident, tragically lost her life following a severe multi-vehicle collision that occurred on July 3 in Homestead. The crash involved at least four vehicles and resulted in at least six hospitalizations. According to TribLive, the incident took place around Eighth Avenue and Ann Street shortly before 8 p.m., where a white SUV, among other vehicles, was found severely damaged.
Reynolds succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital on Saturday afternoon. As remarked by her sister, Lori Schalles, in an interview, as per WTAE, "She was the strongest woman that I know," indicating the extent of her injuries which included a broken leg, back, femur, all of her ribs, and punctured lungs. Schalles also mentioned that their mother was also in the sedan during the accident and sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Allegheny County Police have engaged in investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident but have yet to disclose details or file any charges. The SUV appeared to be speeding excessively, with one witness citing the vehicle's speed could have been "at least 90 miles per hour," said witness Anthony Harp, as reported by WPXI. This speed is suspected to have contributed largely to the severity of the crash, which scattered car parts across the scene and resulted in Reynolds' vehicle being struck head-on.
Reynolds, remembered by friends and family as a deeply caring individual and a caretaker for everybody leaves behind three stepchildren and her husband, Gordon. Lynn Reynolds was returning home from the hospital after visiting her sick uncle, who tragically was going to be taken off life support, with her involvement in taking care of family members evident throughout her life. Close friend Sandra Cole, in an expression of profound loss, "She’s my best friend and she touched a lot of people and I still can’t understand why this happened." A GoFundMe has been set up to assist with funeral expenses for those wishing to support the family during this difficult time, as detailed by WPXI.
