A string of arson incidents rocked the Fairfield community last month, culminating in the arrest of a local man. Fairfield Police Department officers were first alerted on June 21, around 10:45 pm, to a fire in a dumpster at the 1400 block of West Texas Street. According to a social media post by the department, an unknown individual was seen leaving the first fire scene, but no description was initially provided.
Following this incident, Fairfield experienced a series of similar fires. Witnesses reported the flames leaping hungrily, engulfing dumpsters behind a different restaurant and near a local grocery store on the same street. Cameras in the area became the silent sentinels that captured the suspect's image, allowing dispatchers to piece together a description of the perpetrator quickly.
Armed with this new information, Officer S. Diaz observed a man matching the suspect’s description. Spotting him as he ignited a trash can outside Anytime Fitness, the officer wasted no time. The suspect, 30-year-old Jacob Romiski, was promptly detained at the scene and has since been booked into the County Jail.
Sharing details of the arrest, Fairfield Police underscored the importance of alerting citizens and providing technological aid to apprehend Romiski. "Dispatch made quick work of reviewing cameras and provided patrol with a description of the likely culprit", stated the Fairfield Police Department in their official report.
