Puffin Circle and Cascade Circle residents in Fairfield were given the all-clear Monday evening after a natural gas leak prompted a shelter-in-place order earlier in the day. According to the Fairfield Police Department, the utility company, PG&E, successfully secured the leak. The announcement, which came around 9:20 p.m., followed a car accident that severely damaged a natural gas pipeline, as reported by ABC10.
As per the Fairfield Police Department's alert, the collision also led to road closures along Peabody Road, from Air Base Parkway to Vanden Road, with Huntington Drive shut down. With PG&E en route to the scene, the authorities advised residents to avoid the area and find alternate routes during the containment efforts.
The Fairfield Fire Department stated that the power was disconnected for the residences in the vicinity as a precautionary measure. The disruption was expected to be temporary, with a forecast of power being restored within 30 to 40 minutes, as detailed in the ABC10 report.
After the crash, the Fairfield Fire Department closed Peabody Road between Dobe Lane and Markley Lane. After authorities had assessed the situation, PG&E made their way to address the gas leak. Residents were asked to stay in their homes during the ordeal, contributing to a tense several hours as crews worked to ensure the community's safety.
