A Northern Michigan incident has resulted in the arrest of a 52-year-old Falmouth man after he allegedly assaulted a woman and threatened her life with an axe. WWJ Newsradio reported that last Friday night, Michigan State Police responded to a distress call around 11:30 p.m. from a woman, who after fleeing to a local church in Aetna Township, claimed she had been physically attacked by the suspect following a heated argument.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the suspect at the residence, "sitting on a chair in the living room." The woman, whose name has not been disclosed, had visible injuries yet she "refused treatment from EMS personnel," as noted by Michigan State Police and stated in the report by WWJ Newsradio. Despite the tense situation, the suspect, upon troopers' orders, walked towards the door with the axe in hand but ultimately relinquished it without further incident.
Further details from ClickOnDetroit highlighted that the woman had managed to escape and seek help after being repeatedly struck by the man during their confrontation. The suspect was reported to have initially displayed resistance by appearing at the door still holding the axe before eventually complying with troopers' commands.
The man was then taken into custody and is being held at the Missaukee County Jail, pending his arraignment, as per officials. While the identity of the suspect is currently withheld, details of the charges against him are yet to be released, UPNorthLive added that after the woman’s 911 call, officers were able to take control of the situation at the home where the alleged assault took place, enacting their duty to protect and serve even in the shadow of potential danger.
