Tragedy struck on a Houston roadway Wednesday afternoon as two men lost their lives in a harrowing car accident. The Houston Police Department confirmed the incident took place around 4:10 p.m. at 4900 Crane Street. The fatal event involved a silver Ford Crown Victoria and a parked black Dodge Challenger, according to a statement released by the City of Houston.
Officials reported that the two male victims, both aged 44, were in the Crown Victoria which veered off the road and collided with the unoccupied Dodge Challenger. The impact of their vehicle was so severe that it pushed the stationary Challenger into the a metal fence and subsequently a light pole. The names of the deceased are withheld, pending family notification facilitated by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Witnesses at the scene have suggested the driver was moving at a high rate of speed on the wet pavement. It seems they may have been trying to swerve to avoid an unknown pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction, based on accounts provided to the City of Houston's news release. Additionally, the impact of the crash caused a nearby gate to fall and strike an unoccupied white Dodge Ram pickup truck.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division's Sergeant P. Lee and Officer N. Luu are leading the ongoing investigation into the crash. No other injuries were reported in connection with the accident, which unfortunately claimed the lives of the two men on arrival before Houston Fire Department paramedics could offer medical assistance.
