The search for Kelly Paduchowski, a 45-year-old Flagstaff woman reported missing on June 30, has ended in tragedy. Flagstaff Police confirmed that her remains were found on the morning of July 5. This development followed an intense investigation that involved interviews with witnesses and family members, as well as substantial evidence processing.
After the discovery, which location details have been withheld due to ongoing investigative activities, Daniel Paduchowski, Kelly's 58-year-old husband, has been arrested. He faced earlier accusations of aggravated assault, only to find himself at the center of a murder case, implicated in the death of his wife. Originally claiming that his wife had set out for a jog and swim, Daniel later provided the critical information that led authorities to her remains, as FOX 10 Phoenix reports. Witnesses saw Kelly motionless, lying face-down with Daniel on top of her, which neighbors reported sighting before the missing person's call was made, according to ABC15.
Senior Attorney Michael Tunink of the Coconino County Sheriff's Office indicated that Daniel's cooperation was a factor in reaching a plea agreement that included charges of second-degree murder, tampering with evidence, concealing a dead body, and possession of drugs. "Defendant provided us with information that led us to body, phone, car keys and the murder weapon," said Tunink in a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. This agreement will result in Daniel serving a 16-year sentence without the possibility of parole.
The multi-agency investigation, which drew upon resources from the Flagstaff Police Department and Coconino County Sheriff's Office, culminated with a subdued acknowledgment of community efforts. With a sense of closure, albeit somber, Flagstaff police formally expressed their thanks toward the community and the volunteers who had gathered, aiding in the search that uncovered Kelly's untimely end. This collective effort is represented in a statement released on Friday, as reported by ABC15.
