San Antonio's streets have become a playground for car thieves, with certain makes and models topping the lists of the most stolen vehicles in June, as reported by the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD). Leading the ranking is the Ford F-Series truck, with Hyundai and Kia models following suit, notably the Hyundai Elantra and the Kia Optima.
Shared on platforms like Facebook, SAPD's list highlighted that while the F-Series took the top spot, Hyundai and Kia vehicles are not to be overlooked when it comes to the threat of theft. The Hyundai Sonata and Kia Soul also made appearances on this undesired catalogue. As reported by KENS5, a software update was issued earlier this year by Hyundai in an attempt to stave off the trend of thefts, a move prompted by viral social media demonstrations of how easily some models can be stolen.
The SAPD's communication also detailed a series of measures to help citizens protect their vehicles. These included the basics, like taking your keys with you, hiding belongings from sight, and never leaving your vehicle running unsupervised, as News 4 San Antonio emphasized, even if for a minute, could result in theft. SAPD also mentioned parking in secure, well-lit areas or attended lots and stressed the importance of not storing valuables or firearms in visible spots within your car.
With the NICB's reporting that the most stolen vehicles in San Antonio for June mirrors the national trends, it's clear that car thieves have found their preferred targets. According to the KENS5 article, The Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram, and even the typically trusty Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are filling out the remaining slots of the top ten most-stolen vehicles. This pattern suggests that no make or model is truly safe, and vehicle owners must take active steps to secure their cars against the persistent threat of theft.
