Court in the Community meets back-to-school philanthropy. Set for August 10, the Fort Worth Municipal Court is launching an initiative that merges legal resolution with educational readiness. From 9 a.m. to noon at the William M. McDonald YMCA, individuals with outstanding citations are invited to the Court in the Community/Warrant Forgiveness event, according to the City of Fort Worth. In tandem, a back-to-school giveaway starts at 10 a.m., promising free school supplies, backpacks, food trucks, and family-friendly activities.

Designed to provide a judicial olive branch, this event is a shot to resolve legal woes, offering alternatives to fines—such as community service—based on a person's ability to pay. Court Director William Rumuly, as per the City of Fort Worth, emphasized, “We are a Safe Harbor Court, meaning we do not arrest persons who come voluntarily to see us on their outstanding cases.” Available slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis for as many as 120 people with Class C criminal cases.

The Court in the Community event also signifies a partnership with community organizations aiming to uplift and support attendees beyond their immediate legal concerns. Goodwill North Central Texas joins the initiative, offering employment opportunities and free job counseling services. Similarly, Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas will be available to assist with civil legal matters, covering an array of issues from family law to bankruptcy. No appointments are necessary for these services.
