Authorities in Genesee County are actively inviting the public to aid in a homicide investigation following the discovery of a 33-year-old victim in Fenton Township. Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson highlighted the incident on Saturday, stressing that the homicide took place near Thompson and Jennings Roads around 3 p.m., as reported by Fox 2 Detroit. Swanson has not yet released further details about the victim, including gender and identity.
The current focus of the investigation is to locate a "newer style" orange Chevrolet Camaro, suspected to have been involved in the crime. In an effort to further the investigation, Swanson is encouraging residents to thoroughly check their camera footage and to contact authorities should they discover anything of potential relevance. According to a statement obtained by ABC12, gunfire was reported in the vicinity of the crime scene.
Ensuring the community that there is no present danger, Swanson described the surrounding area as "safe" despite the ongoing investigation. Also noted by Mid-Michigan Now, Michigan State Police Crime Lab examined the scene as part of standard procedure following such incidents.
While the authorities are continuing to firmly work towards a resolution, Swanson admitted they "don't have a lot of leads". He has made a call to action for anyone with pertinent information to urgently reach out to the Genesee County Sheriff's Department at 810-257-3422 or dial 911 for immediate assistance.
