Germantown locals are poised to methodically recalibrate their household budgets as the city announces increases in water, sewer, and sanitation rates, effective this July. According to a recent update on Germantown's official website, residential customers using an average of 4,000 gallons will be looking at an additional $8.72 on their monthly bill, with commercial establishments expecting around a $22 increment for similar usage. Notable is the fact that sanitation rates will surge for the first time in seven years.
The adjustments are designed to inexplicably cover a gamut of financial demands, including personnel compensation, inflating maintenance and treatment material costs, sewage treatment expenses, and constant infrastructure advancements. It is projected that the newly adjusted water and sewer tariffs will be maintained for the upcoming three-year span. For residential water use, the rate up to 999 gallons will jump from $8.78 to $11.10. The per-thousand-gallon charge for usage between 1,000 and 10,000 gallons will see a spike from $1.14 to $1.44, with usage over 10,000 gallons climbing from $2.50 to $3.16.
Modifications in residential sewer rates will manifest as a baseline increase from $5.58 to $7.73, and a heightened rate for usage between 1,000 to 10,000 gallons escalating from $1.98 to $2.74 per thousand gallons. For quantities used from 11,000 to 21,000 gallons, residents will encounter an uptick from $2.40 to $3.32. The maximum ceiling for charges will also see a significant shift, rising from $51.78 to $71.65, with the cap on residential sewer charges remaining at 21,000 gallons per cycle.
The impact on commercial entities can be just as pronounced, with baseline water rates for usage up to 2,000 gallons shifting from $14.49 to $18.32. Water consumption between 3,000 to 50,000 gallons will incur a rate change from $3.73 to $4.71 per thousand gallons, and a leap from $5.30 to $6.70 for usage over 50,000 gallons. Sewer rates for businesses are slated to also incrementally increase: the rate for up to 1,000 gallons will grow from $6.95 to $9.63, with increments also applicable to higher usages. Commercial sewer rates have no stated maximum limit.
Sanitation fee adjustments will notice a backdoor collection rate increase from $36.50 to $40.15 per month and a curbside pickup hike from $29.50 to $32.45. Residents in townhouses, where yard waste isn't collected by the city, will see their rate increment moderately from $19 to $20.90 monthly.
