The ballots have been cast and the tallies are rolling in for Fountain Hills' latest electoral face-off. Holding an eye on the preliminary results, it's become clear that this small Arizona town is witnessing a robust contest among its nonpartisan candidates.
According to an unofficial early vote count released by the town's government website, Ginny Dickey is leading the pack with a substantial margin, securing nearly 47% of the votes. With a reported total of 3,682 votes, Dickey stands ahead of Gerry Friedel, who has garnered 3,059 votes, amounting to just over 39%. Not to be dismissed, former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a controversial figure in his own right, has managed to rally 1,092 citizens to his cause, representing close to 14% of voters.
The Fountain Hills government official results hint at a community engaged in the civic debate. In a separate but also closely-watched race, Peggy McMahon is leading with 17.26% of the vote, with Rick Watts and Clayton Corey nearly neck and neck each hovering around the 14% mark. The spectrum of candidates and the breadth of support each has received, from Henry Male's 11.82% to Mathew Corrigan's 13.74% and Gayle Earle's leading among them with 16.27%, indicate a variegated political landscape. Not far behind, Art Tolis and Robert Wallace managed to capture 8.38% and 3.72% of the vote.
