Texas Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced a significant Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant for Texas State Technical College (TSTC). As reported by the Governor's office, the award of $110,193 dispensed by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), is designed to propel customized training for Noble Texas Builders LLC employees, targeting roles in accounting, surveying, office administration, and construction.
With the onset of a burgeoning economy, this grant endeavors to bolster the capabilities of over 55 existing and incoming workers. "As our booming economy continues to grow, so does the need to invest in our highly skilled workforce through skills development programs," Governor Abbott stated. He underscored the significance of providing Texans with opportunities to elevate their vocational prowess. This initiative reflects a commitment to meet the accelerating demands of the state’s economic landscape.
Adding to the Governor's sentiments, TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel highlighted the SDF's pivotal role, "The Skills Development Fund provides innovative workplace training that supports Texas’ thriving economy." The program's goal is a streamlined and targeted upskilling approach, ensuring workers gain essential proficiencies for in-demand occupations, as emphasized in the announcement.
The grant presentation, conducted at TSTC's Cultural Arts Center in Harlingen, included representatives from TSTC and Noble Texas Builders LLC, with TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Joe Esparza delivering the grant. It should be noteworthy that the SDF is Texas’ premier workforce training grant program, collaborating with public community and technical colleges alongside workforce development boards, and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service to orchestrate customized and innovative training courses suited to Texas businesses.
Since its inception in 1996, the SDF program has progressively enhanced the workforce potential across the state. With the active support of over 4,800 employers, this initiative has facilitated training opportunities that have contributed to the development or improvement of over 420,000 jobs in Texas. Such efforts demonstrate an ongoing investment in the upskilling of the Texas workforce, aligning with the future of the state's economy, as noted in the report from the Governor's office.
