A ground depression in Groveland, Lake County has forced the evacuation of local residents, with the reported size of the fissure posing a direct threat to the safety of three homes in the vicinity. As per Lake County officials, the depression measures approximately 20 by 10 feet and has reached a depth of 8 feet. This unsettled terrain prompted the immediate action of local authorities, who have sectioned off the area for further assessment, WFTV reported.

Initial reports indicated that two of the homes were evacuated as a cautionary measure while the third was directly impacted by the event. However, as the depression was examined further, it became apparent that the scale of the fissure was greater than initially understood. According to WESH, officials have now described the depression as being roughly 10 feet by 80 feet wide, and 10 feet deep.

The Groveland Police Department and fire crews responded promptly to the incident at around 6:30 p.m. last Saturday as local safety protocols were swiftly enacted. The city has proffered hotel accommodations for the affected residents, with the Red Cross providing necessary assistance.

"We have been staying at that house for 18 to 20 years, and so it's been like my childhood, but you know, I'm just praying all is good," Christopher Zingo Jr., a resident forced to evacuate his grandparents' home, expressed his concern in a statement, as per WESH.
