The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office led by Sheriff Chad Chronister, launched a DUI and BUI enforcement campaign to curb impaired driving and boating in the area. In their efforts, deputies made 396 traffic stops which resulted in 33 citations and 363 warnings to drivers, with 32 arrests made for driving under the influence, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office press release.

"It is disheartening to see that 32 individuals made the reckless decision to drive under the influence without considering the potentially devastating consequences," Sheriff Chad Chronister said, emphasizing the duty of his deputies to ensure safety on the roads. Sheriff Chronister's statements were echoed in the press release, which highlighted the dangers of impaired driving, as reported by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office website.

The Sheriff's Office's Marine Unit also maintained vigilance on the waterways, carrying out 99 vessel stops resulting in 4 citations and 90 warnings. Among these encounters, authorities arrested one individual for boating under the influence. Despite the arrest count and the potential for harm, the holiday celebrations concluded without any significant mishaps.

"We are fortunate that there were no major incidents over this holiday weekend despite some careless decisions," Sheriff Chronister said, acknowledging the gravity of the problem while recognizing the lack of major incidents, according to the press release by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Continued enforcement and educational efforts by Sheriff Chronister and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office are aimed at reinforcing the importance of sober driving and the adherence to responsible boating habits among the community.
