The department did not release information on injuries or the number of vehicles involved as of the update.
The intersection has become a familiar flashpoint for serious wrecks. A multi-vehicle crash at the same intersection in February 2024 injured several people and forced prolonged lane closures, according to WTSP. Hoodline also reported a trauma crash at this exact corner just last month.

Crews faced added strain Saturday afternoon. A Hernando County Fire Rescue ambulance, Rescue 11, responding to a separate emergency was itself involved in a collision at Cortez Boulevard and Barclay Avenue around 4:30 p.m., resulting in four hospitalizations, according to a report shared via Facebook by Central Florida Scanner. The ambulance was reportedly operating with lights and sirens at the time of that crash, illustrating the operational demands placed on county fire rescue resources responding to multiple incidents along the same corridor within hours of each other.
