A Cohasset road rage incident escalated violently when a man was attacked with a baton on Friday, leading to the arrest of 51-year-old Gregory D. Knowles of Hingham. Knowles is facing multiple charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and strangulation, in connection with the assault on the 34-year-old victim from South Boston, as reported by NBC Boston.

The victim, whose identity was not disclosed, was allegedly choked and beaten with an expandable police-style baton by Knowles after his Jeep came to a stop in front of the victim's vehicle on Route 3A near Sohier Street in Cohasset; this was a scenario that the police detailed through the victim's report, and the confrontation led to visible injuries on the victim. He declined medical treatment at the scene, as per WCVB.

Police action was swift following the road rage incident, aided by the victim who noted the assailant's license plate number, enabling officers to locate and arrest Knowles at his home, and they later confiscated and secured his Jeep, and within which they found the weapon after obtaining a search warrant, said Cohasset police.

In a surprising turn during Monday's court proceedings, the judge deferred Knowles’ arraignment, opting instead for a diversion under a state law covering military veterans, NBC Boston highlighted this development. Knowles is set to appear in court next on August 12, 2024 for further proceedings according to WCVB's report.
