A somber discovery was made when deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed disturbance call near Highway 64. Upon their arrival at around 12:40 p.m., they uncovered a scene involving a vehicle in a wooded area next to a closed business and a deceased man on the property, as reported by Action News 5. The man was found with a gunshot wound, and the scene is still being investigated as a crime.

With the events unfolding, part of Highway 64 was reduced to one lane eastbound near the 385 intersection, causing traffic disruptions. Reporting from the scene, FOX13 conveyed the shock of David Smith, a man who uses the property for his construction business storage, upon receiving a call about the incident. "I was shocked. I was shocked," Smith said after learning about the grim discovery in front of the rented property.

The identity of the victim has been confirmed by family members at the scene, who spoke with FOX13 to be a 27-year-old man. Details surrounding the incident remain scant as detectives with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department are actively working to piece together the sequence of events that led to this tragedy.

An eyewitness shared with WREG a harrowing account of the moment chaos erupted. After what appeared to be a car crash, he witnessed a woman waving for help. While running towards the wreckage in an attempt to assist, a gunman opened fire. "It was really loud," the eyewitness described, recalling the sounds of tires screeching and a loud boom, before the unexpected confrontation with the shooter. "I started running towards it to help out. All I wanted to do is help but end up getting shot at instead."
