A man has been apprehended and charged in connection to a fatal shooting incident that occurred last month in Houston, leading to the death of 45-year-old Dendre Deboest. This development follows the discovery of Deboest's body in the roadway of 6700 Cours Street on the evening of June 18, deepening the narrative of a crime that had, until now, little in the way of leads or suspects.
The Houston Police Department has revealed that Roosevelt Lane Brimzy, also 45, faces murder charges in the 339th State District Court. A routine call initially believed to be an auto-pedestrian crash unraveled into a shooting investigation when officers, upon arrival, found the unresponsive body of a man, later identified as Mr. Deboest, who had not been struck by vehicle but instead had been shot. An image of Brimzy linked to the case has been provided along with the news release.
In a statement derived from the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division, involving Sergeants M. Burrow, R. Watson and Detectives M. Perez and J. Diaz, it was reported that "HPD patrol officers responded to a report of an auto-pedestrian crash at the intersection of Cours Street and Lynnfield Street and found an unresponsive man lying in the roadway." The Houston Fire Department paramedics were on scene, confirming the death of Mr. Deboest.
The case remained cold with no known witnesses or suspects until further investigation prompted authorities to identify Brimzy as the suspect. Cooperation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office led to the charges placed against him. On Monday, two days shy of a month since the incident, Brimzy was arrested by the HPD Westside Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team without further incident and booked into the Harris County Jail.
