
The Houston community is grappling with a somber reality after the recovery of two bodies from local bayous in separate incidents, following the chaos Hurricane Beryl left in its wake. The Houston Police Department's dive team retrieved the body of a man from Brays Bayou, located at 200 Broadway, around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Houston Chronicle reports. Police say the man had been spotted drinking before making the fateful decision to leap into the bayou at the 500 block of South 75th Street at about 5:20 p.m. on Monday; it was only hours after Hurricane Beryl had swept through the city.
In another tragic turn of events, authorities were called to the 1900 block of Studemont Street where another body was discovered in White Oak Bayou at 2:10 p.m., circumstances surrounding this incident remain unclear, as stated by FOX 26 Houston.
Efforts to locate the man who jumped into Brays Bayou began shortly after he was seen on Monday, but initial searches were unsuccessful. The man's identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Similarly, the individual found in White Oak Bayou has yet to be identified and the police have not disclosed further details regarding the potential cause or the circumstances leading to their death.
While the Houston Police Department continues its investigation into these deaths, officers advise the public to exercise extreme caution around bayous, especially in the aftermath of severe weather.
