Howard County has named Sean Alliger as the new Deputy Chief of the Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS), in a move announced by Fire Chief Louis Winston. Taking on the role starting July 15, Alliger steps up with a solid 27 years of experience within the department. "Deputy Chief Alliger brings years of knowledge and experience from within HCDFRS to the role of deputy chief," Winston said in a statement, emphasizing Alliger's aptitude for mentorship, forming regional collaborations, and employing a strategic approach to leadership, as detailed by Howard County press release.

Having previously held positions from Firefighter to Assistant Chief, Alliger has overseen various facets of HCDFRS including its Office of the Fire Marshal, Emergency Services Bureau, and Logistics Bureau. His academic credentials include a bachelor's degree in Fire Science Management, awarded by the American Public University System. County Executive Calvin Ball lauded Alliger's appointment, saying, "With nearly three decades of experience, Deputy Chief Alliger brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new role, that I know will help further propel the department further in its mission to educate, protect and serve all who live, work, play, grow, and thrive in our great county", as cited by Howard County.

Throughout his tenure, Alliger has remained deeply invested in local service, both as a trustee of the Howard County Professional Fire Officers Association and as Vice President of the IAFF Local 2000. A Howard County resident since 1979, Alliger expressed his honor in serving the community through his new appointment. "Howard County is a great place to live and work. At HCDFRS, we employ some of the best in our field, both civilian and uniformed, and I'm thankful for the opportunity to represent them in this new role, thanks to the trust placed in me by Fire Chief Louis Winston and County Executive Ball," he mentioned in his statement, as per Howard County press release.

The department's announcement also included the promotion of 34 other personnel whose new tenures will likewise commence on July 15. Among these are four newly appointed Assistant Chiefs. These promotions reflect the ongoing commitment of HCDFRS.
