A 19-year-old driver managed to escape from his car uninjured before the vehicle caught fire following a rollover crash in Ottawa County. The incident occurred yesterday evening, according to WZZM 13.
The crash happened at around 11:45 p.m. on 96th Avenue near Bingham Street in Blendon Township, deputies stated. The 19-year-old Hudsonville resident was driving a Toyota Camry northbound when he, lost control of the vehicle, entered a ditch, and the car rolled and landed on its roof. WOOD reported that the young man was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, a factor that likely contributed to his ability to walk away from the perilous situation.
The driver, whose name has not been released, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was able to exit on his own before emergency services arrived at the scene. First responders from Blendon Township Fire Department quickly extinguished the flames. The individual was subsequently transported to Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
"The driver sustained non life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital," as wwmt.com reported. Authorities closed 96th Avenue for approximately one hour to conduct an investigation and clear the crash site. Details surrounding the incident remain sparse, the investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing, and no further details have been disclosed.
