Huntersville Police have arrested a driver involved in a fatal three-car collision that occurred on Tuesday night. The wreck, which claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman and left another driver with life-threatening injuries, happened around 8 p.m. along Statesville Road near Mount Holly-Huntersville Road, as confirmed by WCNC. The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene, however, her identity has not been publicly released.
The aftermath saw a concerted effort to track down the fleeing driver, later identified as Michael Benjamin, 31. Using a K-9 Unit, Huntersville police managed to quickly locate Benjamin, who allegedly tried to unscrupulously leave the accident site. "A third driver, identified as Michael Benjamin, 31, was located by a Huntersville Police K-9 Unit a short time after attempting to flee the crash scene," reported WNCT. Benjamin is now facing charges in connection with the wreck, although specific charges have yet to be detailed.
The other injured individual was hurriedly transported to Atrium Hospital in Charlotte, per the reports from the scene. The nature of the life-threatening injuries has not been disclosed, and the condition of the injured driver is currently unknown.
