One person suffered life-threatening injuries in a stabbing Saturday afternoon in the 600 block of Clanton Road in southwest Charlotte, according to the Mecklenburg EMS Agency. MEDIC responded to the call at approximately 2:30 p.m. and transported the victim to a local hospital. The case remains a developing story, and no suspect information or motive has been released.
MEDIC reported that crews found one person with life-threatening injuries at the scene, according to WSOC-TV. The outlet reported that the victim was taken to a hospital in Charlotte following the stabbing, though further details about the victim's identity or condition had not been released as of Saturday evening. It's unclear whether police have identified a suspect or made any arrests in connection with the incident.
Where the Stabbing Happened
The 600 block of Clanton Road sits within CMPD's Westover Division, which patrols the area from a division station on West Boulevard, per the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Clanton Road runs through southwest Charlotte's Clanton Park neighborhood, connecting South Tryon Street and West Boulevard near Interstate 77, according to AARoads. The corridor has seen violent crime before — CMPD homicide detectives investigated a fatal shooting in a parking lot on the 800 block of Clanton Road back in October 2018, according to WCNC.
Since a call resulting in a life-threatening injury transport is classified by MEDIC as a Priority 1 response, crews would have moved the victim to the hospital with lights and sirens under standard protocol. Mecklenburg County added 50 EMT positions and 10 additional ambulances for MEDIC in its 2025–2026 fiscal year budget, an investment aimed at expanding the agency's emergency response capacity across the county, per EMS1.
Part of a Broader Pattern in South Charlotte
This is not the first stabbing to leave a victim fighting for life in the area this year. Hoodline previously reported a Tyvola Road stabbing in March, and another stabbing left a victim clinging to life at a South Boulevard gas station earlier this month. Clanton Road itself has drawn Hoodline coverage before, including an armed robbery near South Tryon Street and a fatal pedestrian crash further up the corridor last September.
The stabbing arrives even as CMPD's citywide data shows violent crime trending downward. In the first half of 2026, the department reported an 8% citywide reduction in violent crime compared to the same period last year, including a 4% drop in aggravated assaults, according to the City of Charlotte. That follows a steeper decline in 2025, when violent crime across the city fell 21% compared to 2024.
What Charges Could Look Like
If a suspect is eventually identified and charged, North Carolina law offers several possible paths depending on the severity of the injury and evidence of intent. Assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury is a Class E felony under state law, carrying a maximum potential prison term of up to 88 months, according to Browning & Long, PLLC. If prosecutors were to find evidence of intent to kill combined with serious injury, the charge could be elevated to a Class C felony punishable by up to 231 months in prison, while an assault with a deadly weapon that does not cause serious injury is charged as a Class A1 misdemeanor, per the Patrick Roberts Law Blog. No charges have been announced in this case, and it remains unclear whether the victim's injuries meet any of those legal thresholds.
