Mark your calendars for a convergence of community and resourcefulness in Knoxville. On Aug. 10, 2024, the City’s Office of Neighborhood Empowerment will be hosting the Neighborhood Resource Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jacob Building in Chilhowee Park. Entry is on the house, and those who sign up in advance can get their hands on tickets for hourly door prize draws and food vouchers, good for a bite at the concession stand.

Interested locals should aim to register by Aug. 6 to take part in the festivities. The fair will present an opportunity for area residents to rub shoulders with over 80 different entities—from city departments to nonprofits, each peddling information and assistance on programs aimed at bolstering neighborhood life. "Imagine a kind of tradeshow for residents who want to explore the many ways they can work with local government and community partners to improve their neighborhoods and their quality of life," Neighborhoods Coordinator Debbie Sharp told the City of Knoxville.

Knoxville's own departments will be in attendance, ranging from Parks and Recreation to Waste and Resources Management. Initiatives like Vision Zero and Empower Knox will be featured, looking to engage residents in the kind of conversations that can lead to tangible community uplift.

The fair isn't short on diversity, with organizations like the American Job Center, and Centro Hispano in attendance, as well as a slew of others like the League of Women Voters and Trees Knoxville. Each group will have their representatives ready to spread the word about their services and spark ideas for future neighborhood endeavors. For anyone looking to get involved in local affairs or to give back to the community, this is the place to be on Aug. 10.
