A hiker stranded on the Blue Ridge Trail was successfully lifted to safety during a coordinated rescue operation yesterday. California Highway Patrol's Golden Gate Division Air Operations, along with fire crews from Vacaville, Winters, the Vacaville Fire Protection District, and a trained San Ramon Valley Fire High Risk Team (HRT) member, worked together to effect the timely rescue of the hiker who had encountered a medical emergency amidst the rugged northern California terrain.

Initiated after distress signals were reported, the aerial search by the CHP's H-30 helicopter unit resulted in the location of the hiker stranded between a ridge and challenging switchbacks on the trail.

The San Ramon Valley Fire HRT specialist, who was undergoing training, was lowered to the scene and securely fastened the hiker into a rescue harness, according to the CHP - Golden Gate Division Air Operations. This was the 80th person rescued by H-30 in 2024.
