Yesterday morning, a residential blaze tore through a Kirkland home, leaving it enveloped in flames and the community shaken. The fire, which officials are still working to determine the cause of, was reported before 2 a.m., prompting a swift response from crews with the Kirkland Fire Department. Upon arrival at the Northeast 129th Street location, firefighters had to cut through a fence to access the already fully engorged building, as FOX 13 Seattle reported.
In a striking development, a quick-thinking local man, Kyle Eskelin, intervened to significantly to tilt the scales of fate in favor of his neighbors. Eskelin, observing the fire which had ignited at an unoccupied house undergoing renovations, realized the flames had spread to his girlfriend's adjacent home. Acting decisively, he bypassed the smoke alarms that hadn't triggered and roused his girlfriend and her daughter from their sleep, effectively ensuring their escape from potential disaster. "He saved us both," Michelle Landwehr, Eskelin's girlfriend and homeowner, told KING 5 in admiration of his life-saving actions.
While the origin house was left destroyed, Eskelin's efforts prevented further tragedy in the neighborhood. Beyond his own residence, he took initiative to warn another set of neighbors about the blaze, luckily their property was spared from the fire's wrath. Although the fire was described as fast-moving and intense by Eskelin, there have been no injuries reported in connection with the incident. Eskelin, who has security cameras pointed in the direction of the razed home, stated his willingness to cooperate with fire investigators by providing a copy of his footage. "I ran down there, looked out the window, and the neighbor's house was completely on fire," Eskelin recounted his experience to KING 5.
