In a recent federal court decision, Kristian Ramos, a 44-year-old resident of Kissimmee, has been handed a six-year sentence for the illegal possession of a firearm, furthering the U.S. government's crackdown on gun violence. U.S. District Judge Paul G. Byron imposed the sentence, which also includes a forfeiture of a Beretta Nano 9mm handgun found in Ramos's possession, according to a Department of Justice announcement.
Ramos, whose prior convictions include robbery with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance, had pleaded guilty earlier this year on February 27, acknowledging his breach of federal law that strictly prohibits convicted felons from having firearms or ammunition, in this instance occurring on May 23, 2023 and Ramos, due to these past transgressions, faces the legal consequences once again. The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in collaboration with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant United States Attorney Noah P. Dorman handled the prosecution, marking another step towards the Department of Justice's commitment initiated in May 2021, when it launched a violent crime reduction strategy to boost the efficacy of PSN by indeed fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community organizations that tackle the roots of violence and strategically setting enforcement priorities while measuring outcomes.
